Insight · Live event walls

Someone posts a photo from the front row and three seconds later it appears on the giant screen above the stage. The person next to her points at it, and suddenly half the row is taking pictures, hoping to see themselves up there too.

The short version. People love seeing themselves as part of the bigger picture. The wall has to be fast enough to feel live and careful enough to stay safe.

Local first, then the world

A live wall fed straight from the internet is only as fast as the hall connection. We run a server on the venue network first, so posts from inside the room appear almost instantly and the outside world catches up in the background. It is the same thinking as our post on offline-first event applications.

Moderation is not optional

A public wall needs a human in the loop. Posts are screened automatically, and anything flagged waits for approval before it appears. MOSAIC is built around that queue. Try it below with moderation on and off.

More than photos

The same wall can show live poll results, questions from the audience and captures from a photo booth. PULSE feeds votes and battles straight to the big screen, so the audience sees its own opinion change in real time.

Designed for the big screen

A wall is a piece of design, not a feed. The layout, the pace of new posts and the way the brand frames them all need to read from the back of the hall. Our media and content production team designs the layout, and our post on rendering for LED walls covers the pixel side.

Mistakes we see

  • A wall fed only from the internet. When the hall connection struggles, the room loses its moment.
  • No moderation. One bad post on a giant screen is the only thing people remember.
  • Posts that scroll too fast to read from the back. Pace the wall for the room, not the feed.
  • Forgetting the brand frame. A raw feed looks like someone else’s app.

Where it fits

Questions clients ask

How fast do posts appear?

Posts from inside the venue appear within seconds, because the wall is fed from the local network first.

Can offensive posts get through?

Not with moderation on. Flagged posts wait for a human to approve them.

Can the wall show polls as well as photos?

Yes. Polls, questions and booth captures can share the same wall.
